How do over/under bets work?

Over/Under betting, also known as Over/Under betting from English, is not about the result – i.e. which team will win – but about the number of goals (soccer, handball, etc.) or points (basketball, table tennis, etc.). The 22Bet can often be found as “total number of goals/points”. It is also not necessary to hit the exact number, but only to give a tendency whether more or fewer goals than specified. The number of goals or points to bet over or under is specified by the betting provider. As a rule, all goals in a game are meant, i.e. the goals of both teams added up. The same applies to points in basketball or equivalent in other sports.

TYPICAL ONES

In most cases, over/under bets are placed directly at the top of an event. What catches the eye directly, for example in soccer, is that there are half values. For example, the bet Over/Under 2.5 goals. Now every soccer fan will have noticed over the years that there are no half goals. The reason for the bet is simply that it becomes clear. If two goals fall, there are less than 2.5 goals. If there are three goals, there are more. Thus, over 2.5 goals bets and under 2.5 goals bets can be clearly assigned. Thus, the bet is clearly won or lost.

FIRST EXAMPLE

This example shows the win when you bet on whole numbers without any handicap, as will shown in the second example. The Over/under bets with whole numbers: Even though half numbers are mostly found, there are very well over/under bets for whole numbers. Then the bet is called: over/under 2.0 goals. In most cases there is a clear final score. The situation is different in this case with the results 1:1, 2:0 or 0:2, because then exactly two goals have fallen. In this case, the bet is returned, regardless of whether you bet Over or Under. So it really depends on the result difference. 

SECOND EXAMPLE

Another example explains the Over/Under betting with Asian handicaps: There are other forms of Over/Under bets that you can come across at betting sites. They are not as popular as the bets on whole numbers. We are talking about the so-called Asian Handicaps. There, the bettor can also encounter bets with 2.25 goals as the default. With quarter goals, the adjacent values for half goals and whole values are each recorded at 50% in a bet and evaluated separately. In this case, that would be 2.0 and 2.5 goals. Possibly, the bettor then wins or loses only half of his bet, but at least saves the stake of the other half. And can re-use this bet win.
